Students at Samuel Whitbread Academy have achieved their best ever GCSE results.

The school is celebrating 65% of students achieving five A*-C grades, a 4% increase on last year’s results.

Thirty of the schools students achieved eight or more A*s and A grades.

Principal Robert Robson said: “Schools were warned by the Government and by examination boards that this year would be the toughest for a long time for examination outcomes and I am therefore delighted that we have bucked that trend and have recorded our best ever results.

“Students and staff have worked incredibly hard this year and I am particularly pleased to see the highest number of A*s and A grades that we have ever achieved.”
