Pupils and staff have said their fond farewells to three school stalwarts who have chalked up nearly 100 years of service between them.

Teacher Brenda Chapman, chair of governors Iain Sillars and premises manager Carol Gledhill all retired from St Nicholas Primary School and Nursery in Stevenage – having each been part of the school team for more than 30 years.

Headteacher Sarah Stevens said: “Brenda, Iain and Carol have all been highly valued members of our school and will be sorely missed by everyone. We wish them all a well deserved, happy and healthy retirement.”

St Nicholas is one of the oldest schools in Stevenage, having originally opened in 1834 in Burymead.
