THERE were tears of joy at Fearnhill School in Letchworth GC this morning as students received their GCSE exam results.

Overall, 60 per cent of pupils achieved five passes at grade A* to C.

High achievers include Satjivan Aujla who secured nine A*s, Matthew McCloskey who achieved eight A*s and one A, Lucy Dollman who secured six A*s and three As, and James Hawkes who achieved five A*s and six As.

Headteacher Jed Whelan said: "We are delighted for the students who have worked so hard to achieve these wonderful grades. Students have every right to be proud of their achievements.

"I would like to praise the staff of the school who are always prepared to go that extra mile to help students and have seen their efforts and dedication rewarded in the happy faces of the students. The results are a culmination of a great deal of teamwork.

"This has been the icing on the cake of a great week for the school as cyclist Victoria Pendleton, an ex-pupil, secured a fantastic gold medal in the Olympic Games in Beijing.
