A hearty harvest breakfast set up pupils at Graveley Primary School for a day of deliveries to 130 addresses in the village on Thursday.

The Ashwell Common school has a tradition of sharing with the community at this time of year, and the day began with 83 children tucking in to their special breakfast served by the school staff before the youngsters aged from four to 11 years old delivered gifts all over the village to addresses including St. Mary’s Church and the Halcyon Days home for the elderly in Church Lane.

Each child brought in an old mug to use as the base for bouquets created from flowers donated by parents and the Sainsbury’s store at Coreys Mill.

Messages of thanks included one card which read: “What a lovely surprise to discover flowers on my doorstep. It is nice to feel part of school life.” Headteacher Linda Massey said: “Once again, the whole school community embraced our gift of giving experience. From making the floral gifts to delivering them to our neighbours, the whole event was a huge success.”
