THERE is “great excitement” at The Barclay School in Stevenage today (Thursday) as the vast majority of A-level students have achieved the grades needed to pursue their goals.

But headteacher Janet Beacom said staff are “working hard to support the few who are having to rethink their plans in view of the reduction on university places this year”.

She added: “We haven’t got final results yet, as we have a couple of queries with exam boards, but I can confirm that our pass rate is currently 95 per cent.”

The highest achiever was Christopher Fawcett with A*A*ABC.

Other A* grades were achieved by Callum Rowe, Elizabeth Howard and Daniel Bradshaw.
