“Outstanding” is how Marriotts School’s A-level results have been described in the first year under a new headteacher.

Results were up on last year across the board, with 98 per cent achieving all grades at A*-E and 80 per cent at A*-C.

A third of all grades were A*, with more than half – 53 per cent – at A* or A.

Results for vocational subjects maintained last year’s 100 per cent pass rate, with a 26 per cent increase in students gaining a Distinction* or a Distinction grade.

For AS, grades at A-E were 40 per cent up on 2013, with a 16 per cent increase on A-B grades.

Head Bethany Honnor, who started at the school in September, said: “We are delighted with the fantastic achievements of all our students in their recent qualifications and are very proud of the hard work and positive attitude that has earned them these outstanding results.

High achievers at the school included head boy Scott Brown, who achieved an A*, A and B at A-level, a B and C at AS and a triple Distinction*.

Scott will be studying computer science at the University of York.

Head girl Cheyenne Garratt was given a triple Distinction*, a Distinction and a C at A-level, and will be taking up an acting course at Trinity St David’s. Charlotte Jackson achieved BCC at A-level, and a B in the Extended Project Qualification. She now progresses to the University of Hull to study creative

writing and English.

John Vincent achieved BBC and a Distinction* and has secured a place at Manchester Metropolitan University reading history.

Glenn Williams will also be studying history at Anglia Ruskin University reading History, following a B and C at A-level and a Distinction*. Glenn has also achieved success on the bowling green, and has been placed in the top 16 at Bowls England U25 National Singles.
