FIVE schools are being considered for permanent expansion as part of a £31m programme.
Under Hertfordshire County Council’s plans, an extra 30 pupils would start at Letchmore Infants School in Stevenage in September, 2014, feeding into Almond Hill Juniors.
Giles Infants in the town would also have 30 more places, linked to Giles Juniors, while Walkern Primary could increase numbers by 10.
A plan for an extra classroom to cope with existing numbers at Whitehill Junior School in Hitchin has also been put forward.
The proposals, which are expected to cost £6.1m, were backed on Tuesday by Hertfordshire County Council’s education and skills cabinet panel as part of a countywide project affecting 13 schools.
A public consultation on the plans opened on Wednesday and runs until March 20, ahead of a final decision by the county council’s cabinet in July.
