The hard work has paid off for students and staff alike as results across the board improved for Marriotts School.
Overal, 42 per cent of students achieved five grades at A*-C including English and Maths – up by 14 per cent on last year.
In GCSE and equivalent qualifications 18 per cent of all grades were A*-A or equivalent, and 72 per cent were A*-C or equivalent.
In English 70 per cent of students made ‘expected progress’, 40 per cent made ‘better than expected progress’ – putting the Stevenage school above national averages. Overall, 65 per cent of students attained a grade at A-C,
Headteacher Bethany Honnor said: “Our Year 11 students have worked incredibly hard this year throughout each term and often at weekend school and holiday sessions as well. We are pleased to announce that their hard work has really paid off.
“Overall A*-C including English and maths grades are up 14 per cent which represents a huge increase in one year. This is especially pleasing considering the national context which suggests an estimated 5 per cent drop in five A*-C’s including English and maths.
“This leap of success is due to the dedication of our staff, students and the families and I am delighted to have the privilege of leading such a fantastic group of people.
“Like all schools across the country we are determined to continue to improve so that we can be the best school possible for our students. Our overall improvements this year and the speed at which we have made these gains demonstrate that our new approach at the new Marriotts is working.
“I am confident that we will continue to move forward on delivering our vision for ‘every single student to reach and exceed their potential and leave us with the qualifications, skills and attitudes that they need to move on to the next stage of their lives’.”

Nathan Gardner: Nine GCSE or equivalent grades at A*-A, two Bs, and an AS level in biology
Boluwatife Ibitayo: Nine GCSE or equivalent grades at A*-A, and two Bs
Rachel Brown: Seven GCSE or equivalent grades at A*-A, and four Bs
Emily Britton: Five GCSE grades at A* or equivalent, two As, a B and three Cs
