Psychedelic clothing and 1960s wigs were the official uniform at Stevenage’s St Margaret Clitherow Primary School on Monday as staff and pupils marked its 50th anniversary by turning back the clock.
Headteacher Jon White, himself a former pupil at the school in Monkswood Lane, said: “This was the first in a series of events planned for the year and it was a great opportunity to engage with the parents and grandparents of the students.
“For a lot us the 1960s doesn’t seem that long ago but for our children it was a completely different era. This was a perfect opportunity to entertain and educate them about the time.”
Current Year 2 teacher Karen Briscoe, who dressed up as one of The Flower Pot Men, was one of the school’s original students – joining just months after it opened.
