CONCERNS a river had dried up because of the weather have been put to rest, with the lack of water actually due to a reservoir being cleaned.
People took to social media site Twitter at the weekend to ask why the River Hiz in Hitchin town centre was almost completely drained.
There were concerns that it had dried up due to the recent hot weather in the town.
But a reservoir between Portmill Lane and St Mary’s Church, which the river feeds into, was being cleaned out instead.
It is an operation undertaken once or twice a year.
