TWICE in one night Ian Lake assaulted the same man.
Firstly he headbutted Jamie Hardy inside a nightclub, and then their paths crossed outside.
A judge at Luton Crown Court told 22-year-old Lake: "You behaved like a violent drunken bore" - but he said he was not going to send him to prison.
Lake, an electrician from East Road, Langford, pleaded guilty on Monday to two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm. He was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months, put under a night time curfew for four months and ordered to pay £900 in compensation and costs.
Laura Blackband, prosecuting, said that on October 1 last year the victim was out with friends at The Penthouse club in Hitchin.
Lake was there as well and recognised Mr Hardy as someone he had known at school. They spoke to one another but Lake was clearly very drunk.
"He was making a nuisance of himself and bouncers were keeping an eye on him and he was told to calm down. He kept trying to shake hands with Mr Hardy and when that was refused he suddenly headbutted him," added Ms Blackband.
She said Lake was ejected and Mr Hardy cleaned up the blood from his nose and left with some girls, but outside Lake was wandering around.
The two men ended up pushing and shoving each other and they fought on the ground. The victim received cuts and bruises to his face, arms and ribs and was off work for two weeks.
Ian Stebbings, defending, said: "This has really had a salutary effect on him and he has cut down his drinking remarkably.
"He has a good job and works hard and is well thought of."
Judge Burke said: "That night you got very drunk indeed and behaved like a violent drunken bore.
"But normally you are hard working and have done good work in the community, and I think I can properly suspend the sentence.
