MOTORISTS are being warned by the Highways Agency that there could be delays on the A1 (M) northbound between junctions 9 and 10 at night as work continues on the Letchworth Road Bridge over the motorway.

The work involves replacing the existing northbound parapet and safety fencing, resurfacing work and repairs to the bridge structure caused by water damage. All work will be carried out overnight.

Until Sunday, September 27 there will be an overnight contraflow system in place on the A1 (M) between junctions 9 and 10 to allow for the bridge joints to be replaced. There will be two lanes running in each direction.

Once the bridge joint work is completed the resurfacing of the Letchworth Road Bridge will take place. This will be carried out over two separate weeks - from Monday, September 28, to Friday, October 2, and from Monday, October 12 to Friday, October 16. An overnight contraflow will be in place during the work, with one lane open in each direction.

From Monday, October 12 until Friday, November 20 the B656 Letchworth Road will be reduced to one lane with temporary traffic lights in place. There will also be two overnight closures of the B656 on Thursday, October 22 and Tuesday 17 November 17, with a clearly signed diversion route in place.
