Fire stations in Comet country are warning owners of old houses not to let them become history.
Hitchin and Royston fire stations are holding safety awareness days for those who live in thatched properties at Hitchin station on Wednesday and at Royston station next Tuesday (November 10).
"There have been several thatched roof fires in recent years and we want to make sure that people have the right information to protect themselves, their families and their homes," said Keith Emsall, Herts County Council portfolio holder for community, safety and culture. "Being equipped with the right information and having a working smoke alarm is the best defence against fire."
To book a place call Steve Borrell on 01462 666800 or Ali Worsley on 01462 666900 between 9am and 12.30pm or email steve.borrell@hertscc.gov.uk or ali.worsley@hertscc.gov.uk
