VOTERS go to the polls next Thursday, May 4, to say who they want to run their local councils.

The fate of dozens of candidates in Comet country is in the hands of electors.

POLITICAL control of North Herts District Council could change hands if there is a major voting shift from right to left.

Currently, the Conservatives are in charge, holding 28 seats against 14 Labour and seven Liberal Democrat.

But that seven-seat overall majority could be threatened, depending on the voters.

Eighteen of the council's 49 seats are being contested across the district - nine of them defended by the Tories, seven by Labour and one by Liberal Democrats.
