Dog lovers day out: Letchworth's Garden City Brewery to host dog show in aid of Zante Strays charity

The Garden City Brewery promises a fun-filled pooch party at its dog show on Sunday, October 8 at 12.30pm.
The bar in The Wynd has enlisted the help of professional dog show organiser Vanessa Taylor to showcase the town’s fluffy and loveable pets.
It will see man’s best friend getting pampered and fussed over, with a professional photo booth at £2 per picture, to raise money for dog charity Zante Strays.
The charity – which is run by volunteers – is devoted to rescuing, re-homing and improving living conditions for stray cats and dogs in Zante and Zakynthos.
Vanessa told the Comet: “I have been involved in fund raising for Zante Strays for three years now.
“For those who have visited Greece will no doubt have seen the stray cats and dogs in villages, towns and throughout the countryside. Zakynthos is no different.
“Spending a week volunteering with Zante Strays in March has made me more passionate about helping in any way I can, so am looking forward to running this fun dog show alongside the Garden City Brewery.
“We plan to make it fun and all about the dogs and our wonderful judge Paul from Willow Dog Walking will have that hard job of choosing his winners. I don’t envy him!”
The day will include a variety of competitions such as ‘jolly junior’ – for dogs aged two and under – child’s best friend and Letchworth’s ‘top dog’.
First through to fifth place for each category will be recognised with a rosette, and a trophy will be given to the best in show.
Holly-Anne Rolfe, owner of the Garden City Brewery, told the Comet: ”We’re big dog lovers here at Garden City Brewery.
“We have so many lovely canine regulars who are so loved and it’s great to see them all down here.
“We were put in touch with Vanessa from Zante Strays, who is a pro with all the know-how and experience of running dog shows, and the rest is history. It will be great fun and it’s all for a very good cause.”
The charity runs education and sterilisation programmes to prevent the number of unwanted puppies, as well as treating neglected or injured dogs before they are adopted by owners in homes across the UK, Germany and Holland.
No pre-booking is required for the show – £2 entries open at 12.30pm with judging starting at 1pm. The day runs until 4.30pm.
Free parking is available at The Wynd’s car park in Openshaw Way, off Station Road.
