A MEMORIAL service is to be held for a civic campaigner who helped to shape a town.
A dedication will be held on Friday for Mary Goldsmith, former Hitchin Labour politician, advocate for Hitchin poor and town conservationist, who died in September, aged 80. A seat will be dedicated to her at the service in the Garden of Rest beside Biggin Almshouses in the town.
Mary's son and daughter, Bob and Shirley, said: "Mary was a redoubtable campaigner and champion for Hitchin. We are very honoured that North Herts District Council, Hitchin Initiative, Hitchin United Charities and the local Labour Party have come together to place a seat in our mother's memory.
