Stevenage caretaker boss Darren Sarll is hoping he will be given the chance to manage the club full-time next season.
Sarll, Boro’s former head of youth and first team coach, took temporary charge of the first team in February following the departure of Teddy Sheringham and has secured the club’s Sky Bet League Two status for another season.
When asked by the Comet, following the 0-0 draw with AFC Wimbledon, what it has been like for him to lead the team, he said: “It’s been a very special moment for me and my family that grew up just round the corner.
“It’s been a wonderful moment and the fans have been fantastic to me, the applause I got then from the east terrace will stay with me for a long, long time.
“Whatever happens I can always say I led out my club and not many people, not many fans that grow up around their football team, get the opportunity to manage their football club so I have been very, very fortunate to have been able to do it for 17 games and hopefully a lot more.”
