LOTTO jackpot winner and soccer fanatic Darren Nash saw his luck continue into the New Year and rub off onto his local football team.

Darren and his wife Gabrielle, both 34, netted the £15 million Christmas Eve Lotto Superdraw and were presented with the massive cheque at a ceremony held at Tottenham's ground at White Hart Lane, north London.

Darren's other favourite team, Stevenage Borough, then came from a goal behind to beat Cambridge United 3-1 on Sunday.

Darren had taken time out from his busy schedule, including preparations for a party for his son Curtis's fourth birthday, to attend the Nationwide Conference game.

Darren, who left his job as a car valet at Hitchin Audi after the Lotto win, said: "It's all been hectic so far, but that's part and parcel of it I guess.

"We're hoping to get on with life as normally as possible and I've come to the game today as I had planned to do."

Some members of the crowd stood and cheered as the Lotto winner walked to his seat, although nobody had the courage to ask him to buy them a beef burger.

Darren, whose winnings could afford to buy all 22 players on the pitch, said: "No, nobody has decided to ask me that yet.

"I've come here today and planned to watch the game and then go on home to the party.

"I live here, it's my home town, and I will continue to follow the team. I will be speaking to Graham Westley to try to get a shirt with the number 15 on the back."

Darren and Gabrielle found out about their best Christmas present ever on December 24 while settling down to a quiet evening in front of the television.

Gabrielle said: "I was doing the ironing and had just switched over to watch Casualty when I saw the Lotto numbers.

"I recognised them straight away and shouted 'they're my numbers, we've won!'

"Darren was asleep but he woke up immediately and jumped to fetch the ticket.

"We couldn't believe what was happening."

The couple are considering buying a house and updating their Ford Galaxy, but the one thing they are certain of is that the money can guarantee a secure future for Curtis and his four-month-old brother Lewis.

Darren said: "I've seen what other people have done with their winnings and I think we'll just look after the kids.

"I've been a valet ever since I left school but I've left my job now and this money is enough to safeguard my children's future."

The family also plan to take a holiday in Cyprus and for avid football fan Darren to buy a season ticket for his favourite club Tottenham.

"I can now afford to spend more time with my family in the future," he said. "As long as the kids are all right, I'm happy.
