A cyclist was taken to hospital after crashing during a closed road race in Hitchin yesterday.
A man in his 50s fell from his bike on Sun Street during the final round of the Tarmac Tour of Herts in association with Kinetic Cycles called the Cobbled Classic.
An ambulance crew, a rapid response car and a doctor attended the scene. An East Anglian Air Ambulance was also called.
The man, who suffered a broken femur – thighbone – was driven to the Lister Hospital, in Stevenage, for treatment.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
More than 250 cyclists took part in a number of different races throughout the afternoon.
