Bushcraft Group Ltd has obtained permission from Welwyn Hatfield Council to demolish buildings and a Nissen hut at the site in Carbone Hill, Northaw.

The group also has permission to build an office, tractor and maintenance shed, two classroom blocks and a new bag store.

In a design and access statement on behalf of the applicant, it was stated: “It is clear the site has suffered an extreme lack of investment and many of the buildings have been allowed to rot and decay without either proper maintenance or investment.

“This application seeks to address that decline and provide the facilities required for pupils attending camp at the site.

“The use and activities will remain the same.”

The Bushcraft Company describes itself as “a leading provider of outdoor education, offering a range of real outdoor adventures to schools across the country”.

Cuffley Camp Outdoor Centre hit the headlines in 2017 after Herts County Council announced its plans to withdraw funding after breaking the conditions of its lease by failing to maintain the site to an acceptable standard.
