AROUND 1,500 children are being put through their paces as the hugely successful Stevenage Crucial Crew tests them on their safety skills.
In a series of two-hour sessions at Bowes Lyon Centre, Year 6 children have been taking part in fun exercises based around 10 different scenarios, including personal safety, citizenship and environmental issues.
Thirty-two junior schools in and around Stevenage signed up for this year's three weeks of sessions.
Stevenage Crucial Crew is now in its 12th year and has proved to be extremely popular. The training is based on the principle that children's learning is improved through "hands-on" interactive experiences, using various scenarios and role plays.
Executive councillor for housing and health Ann Webb said: "Crucial Crew is a great opportunity for young people to learn valuable health and safety lessons in a fun and stimulating way and encourages them to be responsible citizens.
