A MAN who became a sex addict and obsessed with his mobile phone after suffering brain damage in a motorcycle crash has been awarded at least £1.2m in damages at the High Court in London.

Kunal Karl Lindsay, of Pegsdon Way, Pegsdon, was rendered unemployable by the crash which happened on September 1, 2002.

Mr Justice Mackay, who was presiding over the case, said the accident had left Mr Lindsay pestering his wife, who moved to Australia after the accident, on his mobile phone every day, sometimes in "pornographic" terms.

Last week part of Mr Lindsay's claim for compensation was settled for around £1.2m but his lawyers are still fighting for millions more in future care costs.

A sum to cover the costs of Mr Lindsay's care has yet to be decided but his lawyers are claiming a total of about £4m.

The judge ruled that the bill for looking after Mr Lindsay, 28, will run to around £100,000 a year in the UK.

He said the chances of the victim joining his wife Susan and young son in Australia - where care costs would be lower because his wife would look after him for free - were only 20 per cent because he was unlikely to be granted permanent status because of his poor health and behaviour.

The court heard how Mr Lindsay ploughed into a car driven by Kenneth Wood in September 2002 on the A44 near Bourton on the Hill, Gloucestershire.

Liability was settled in Mr Lindsay's favour.

Father-of-one Mr Lindsay married his wife Susan Hooper-Lindsay after the crash but her hopes of him making a full recovery never materialised.

Mrs Hooper-Lindsay told the court she wanted her marriage to work, and she regarded Mr Lindsay as her "family" and "home", and was keen for him to move to Australia.

But she said she could not contemplate living with him in England because she finds his behaviour stressful, and needs her family around to offer support.

No date was set for the next court hearing, at which the judge will be asked to approve a final sum to be awarded to Mr Lindsay.
