An 11-year-old boy who lost his cousin to a brain tumour has completed a 50-mile cycle ride to support a young people’s cancer charity.

Max Davies, from St Ippolyts, has raised more than £1,300 for charity CLIC Sargent in memory of his cousin Lucy, who died aged only 12.

Max completed the 50-mile ride alongside his dad Mike – going in circles around a 10-mile loop Mike devised that took them as far off as Gravenhurst, near Shefford.

Max’s mum Carly said CLIC Sargent was close to their hearts as the charity had given so much support during Lucy’s radiotherapy at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. Max trained extremely hard to try to give something back.

“Every week he would increase his ride by five or so miles,” said proud Carly.

“They set their target as 50 miles in under five hours. Setting off just after 9am, conditions were fabulous – and the temperature remained below 20°C.

“Max has now raised over £1,300 for CLIC, which is phenomenal.”
