COUNCILLORS have backed a call for a free postal service for people based overseas with the armed forces.
Councillors at North Hertfordshire District Council's full council meeting on Thursday unanimously voted in favour of backing another council's motion to write to the Secretary of State for Defence, Des Browne, to call for the reinstatement of the service.
Tewkesbury Borough Council, in Gloucestershire, has asked each local authority in England to write to Mr Browne MP because current service personnel on overseas duty no longer receive parcels free of charge from family members in the UK.
Councillors also agreed to contact town and parish councils to encourage them to support the call.
