Do you have what it takes to be a photojournalist? Document a set of photographs scattered across independent Hitchin shops and you could be well on the way.
You’ll bump into famous faces like David Bowie and the Rolling Stones during a stroll along the six-stop Hitchin Photographic Trail – which will be open until Christmas Eve.
There are three pictures each in the Gatefold Record Lounge, Riot Lounge, Hitchin Visioncare and Groundworks, and one each in Mather Marshall and Vintage Bay.
The competition has been put together by Fleet Street’s Finest – a Hitchin-based website hosting some of the best photography from the national newspapers over the past 60 years.
Founder Bret Painter-Spanyol said: “Fundamentally we want to get punters into the mindset of the photojournalist, out and about using their skills trying to get the full story.”
Photographers featured in the trail include Roger Taylor, who worked for newspapers like The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Times, and Roger Bamber, whose pictures have appeared in papers including The Guardian.
The collection, including photographs of Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn and the Ribblehead Viaduct in Yorkshire, was previously exhibited together at Groundworks in Churchyard.
The prize in the competition is your choice of classique-sized framed print from the Fleet Street’s Finest library.
Bret said: “Follow our simple brief and get into the mind of a news photographer.
“The brief is easy: photograph each and every picture on show in town, upload to Instagram, tag Fleet Street’s Finest and the relevant shop’s Instagram account, then use the hashtag #FSFhitchin.
“Each action gives you a point, with a possible score of 56 points.
“Additionally, follow Fleet Street’s Finest and the participating shops for a grand maximum total of 63 points.”
The winner is the person with the most points. Should there be a tie for points, a member of the Comet editorial team will decide who has best completed the brief.
The winner will be announced on Christmas Eve. The judging decision is final.
Fleet Street’s Finest is also offering 10 per cent off for Comet readers during December with the discount code FSFhitchin. See fleetstreetsfinest.com or email bret@fleetstreetsfinest.com.
