A CORRUPT senior planning officer who pocketed backhanders to pay for his wife's breast implants and fertility treatment has been ordered to pay back £48,000.

Andrew Rigby, of California, Baldock, was jailed for 18 months earlier this year after pleading guilty to misconduct in a public office and concealing the proceeds of his crime when he worked for the London Borough of Enfield.

The greedy council official had changed planning records and pushed through controversial extensions, accepting nearly £60,000 from grateful applicants, during nearly three years of shady dealings.

He even ordered junior staff to alter official planning documents for him.

Eventually, suspicious colleagues alerted police. When officers raided the Rigbys' home they found incriminating documents, a cupboard stuffed with torn up planning letters and £3,000 cash.

At London's Southwark Crown Court last week, Judge Stephen Robbins ruled Rigby's realisable benefits as £48,000 and warned the 41-year-old to hand over the five-figure sum within a year or face a further 18 months behind bars.

Rigby's disgraced wife Elizabeth, 36, who was given a suspended jail sentence after admitting money laundering, was made the subject of a £15,000 confiscation order several months ago.
