POLICE are to step up their patrols to make sure Biggleswade remains an alcohol free zone on the streets.

During the past few weeks, police have become aware that more young people are risking taking a drink as they walk around now the nights are getting darker earlier.

"Christmas is just around the corner so more people will be out having a drink in pubs. What we are urging them to do is not do it on the streets because it could end up being an expensive fixed penalty fine of £50," said Biggleswade beat manager Pc Ian Wilson.
