THE public consultation period for the east of Luton development has been fixed. The Bedfordshire joint planning committee behind the controversial plan to build thousands of homes and two major bypasses on Herts Green Belt has announced that it will run from April 17 until June 12. This is two week's longer than originally planned so county councillors up for re-election on June 4 can speak on the issue. They are barred from speaking on political matters during a six week period known as purdah before the elections.
