Concerns for the welfare of a man on top of a Stevenage car park saw police close a road in the town centre for more than five hours overnight.

Officers were called just before 9pm to attend to the man, who was on top of the St George’s Way car park.

The road was closed while officers negotiated with the man – who came down at about 2.30am, and was taken to hospital for assessment.
