A COMPANY has been ordered to pay £270,000 in damages to the family of a Falklands veteran who died when a plane he was piloting crashed while practising aerobatic manoeuvres.
Anthony Hunt, 48, of Camberley, Surrey, died along with his brother Ian, 45.
The Russian-built Yak 52 aircraft owned by Yak UK Ltd of Sandy hit a high voltage overhead power line and plunged into a field near Towcester, Northants, in 2003.
An investigation revealed that a screwdriver had become wedged into the wires operating the plane's elevators.
Mr Justice David Clarke was told at the High Court on Monday that Mr Hunt, a father of two teenage daughters, could not gain control of the aircraft.
The judge said that the family had suffered a "tragic loss".
Yak UK Ltd denied liability for the accident.
