EMERGENCY speed restrictions were enforced on train services covering Comet country due to the extreme heat yesterday (Wednesday).
A 90mph speed limit was imposed by Network Rail and affected First Capital Connect services from King's Lynn and Peterborough to London and from Bedford to London.
The safety measures remained in place between noon and 8pm and also included a 60mph maximum speed limit on the Hertford Loop.
A spokesman for First Capital Connect said: "It's a blanket restriction across our network. We have experienced delays of around 30 minutes but have not received any complaints yet.
"It all depends on the weather as to when restrictions will be lifted."
Speed restrictions on trains during high temperatures are a standard procedure to allow for potential buckling or expansion of the track due to the heat.
