Boro boss Graham Westley has set his sights on giving Mitchell Cole a Football League platform to showcase his talent after the winger signed a new two-year deal at the club earlier this week.

Westley revealed he made keeping the 23-year-old at The Lamex Stadium one of his top priorities before Christmas and he hopes Cole can spearhead any potential assault on the Football League next season.

"Mitchell was out of contract and I spoke to the chairman just before Christmas and said I really think he is a player we need to keep at the football club," Westley told The Comet

"For the long term good of the football club you cannot afford your best players to leave.

"He is a tremendous attacking asset - too good for this level by far and hopefully, he will get the chance to play in the football league next year."

Meanwhile, Cole, who has been in electric form recently said he was delighted the deal had been concluded after some lengthy discussions.

"I've been talking to the club for going on four months trying to get to a conclusion and I'm really pleased to be staying.

"All I'm focusing now is helping get the club into the play-offs. We're confident, playing well and winning well and hopefully we can take all that into the last game and get the win.
