Former pupils of Letchworth Grammar School travelled from far and wide to share fond memories of their school days when a reunion was held last week.
Members of the 1948 intake enjoyed sharing stories and photographs of yesteryear when they met at The Gardener’s Arms in Wilbury Hills Road.
After enjoying a lunch together, the group were invited to the nearby Fearnhill School, which replaced the grammar school after it shut in the 1970s.
Old school memorabilia was put on show at Fearnhill to mark the occasion, and those in attendance also had a chance to meet current headteacher Jed Whelan.
Tony Rutherford, who organised the reunion, said. “It was low key but good, especially that two people turned up unexpectedly.
“There was a great buzz of joy at being together again. We all remembered the teachers, the peculiarities of school life, the excitements of going out to work or college for the first time and the variety of life experiences.
“The people at Fearnhill were terrific again and gave us a really warm welcome. The most poignant moment was when a former head boy saw his name on the old LGS Honours Board – now proudly displayed at Fearnhill School. A great day – here’s to the next time.”
