CHRISTMAS came early for children at Puddleduck nursery. Not only did Santa turn up to their festive fair, but he also helped them collect over £1000 for charity in a day.

Around 300 people turned up to take part in a number of events. Activities to raise the cash included games, refreshments, a raffle and tombola.

Businesses donated prizes for the cause including a gliding lesson, scuba diving lesson, meal at Zeus restaurant and Hotel Chocolat goodies.

Local school Knights Templar also got in on the act and donated free membership for two to their gym for a month.

Nikki Greig, deputy manager of the nursery in Baldock, explained why Keech Cottage was their chosen charity. She said: "We know that they run purely on charity and it's children raising money for children."

Nikki organised the event with manager Kara Goodship and said that it is the first fundraising fair of many.
