PRIDE shone through when Letchworth Gar-den City and Baldock Lions Club presented a £2,000 cheque on Tuesday to the Garden House Hospice.

The money, raised at the community service group's annual fireworks display at the Herts FA ground in November, is going towards paying for a building extension at the hospice.

The £100,000 appeal is being backed by the Comet which has the hospice as its chosen charity of the year.

Active fundraisers, the Lions accompanied Santa and his sleigh on his rounds at Christmas and, thanks to the money collected, delivered 120 food parcels to local people.

They are shortly to donate £2,500 for specialist equipment in the stroke unit at Lister Hospital.

The club is always on the look-out for similarly-minded men and women who would like to make a difference in the community and have fun at the same time.
