Pubs and clubs in Hitchin and Letchworth are playing it by the book, after a check-up squad put them under the microscope during a pre-Christmas drive.
A team of police officers from North Herts safer neighbourhood team, special constables and staff from North Herts District Council, pictured above, joined forces for a series of licensing checks in the two towns during a Friday evening blitz led by Sgt Jeremy Staines of the specials and Herts police licensing officer Kuljit Sangha.
A total of 30 premises were checked to make sure they were complying with the conditions of their licences across a range of criteria including alcohol, entertainment and late night refreshment licences.
They had to show that they had procedures in place to check ages, had enough door staff and were operating within permitted hours.
Only one business, in Hitchin, was found to be in breach of its licence and has been warned that further action may be taken if they don’t get their house in order.
Sgt Richard Wilmot of the community safety team said: “We hope that this work sends out a strong message to premises in the area and encourages them to keep on top on the requirements of their licences in the future.”
