CHILDREN and adults flocked to the ASDA store in Biggleswade on Saturday to get a bargain from the police as well as the supermarket.

Throughout the day, police community support officers from the town ran a crime prevention programme in an attempt to help people be reunited with their property if it is stolen.

All property that was brought to the event was postcoded so if it is stolen and then recovered police can quickly get it back to its owner. Dozens of mobile phones were postcoded and a number of children brought along their bikes.

"The event was very successful and highlights how keen people are to try and make their property more secure," said Biggleswade community inspector John Maries.

"We had very good feedback from the public at the event and we will certainly be doing it again.

"People now realise how simple it is to postcode valuable personal belongings like mobile phone, bicycles and other property at home.

"We recover a lot of stolen property and if it is not postcoded we have great difficulty in returning it to the rightful owners.

"This latest event proved people are keen to keep their property even if it is stolen which is why we will do it again.
