Darius Charles describes teenager’s performance as ‘phenomenal’ in his debut for Stevenage on Saturday.

The 18-year-old joined the club on loan until January from Peterborough United late last week, and was put straight into the starting XI as Boro got only their second win on home soil this season.

Speaking afterwards to the Comet about the midfielder, Charles, who got the game’s only goal, said: “Phenomenal, unbelievable. [He’s a] great player. He put his head in where it needed to go, and he put his foot in where it needed to go.

“And then off the back of that he played some brilliant football for us. He’ll have a bright career ahead of him. Brilliant player.”

Charles also said that the only goal of the game was definitely his, despite a big deflection on its way into the net.

“It’s a set piece we’ve worked, and it just so happened that it fell down to me and it was definitely my goal,” Charles said.

“It was on target. It went in via a defender, but I’m happy to get the goal and more to get the result. It’s always pleasing to get three points. It wasn’t the easiest of games but we dug in and worked hard to get the result.”
