A CANCER charity has lost much needed funds after a collection box was stolen from a hospital.

Staff in the pathology department of Lister Hospital were appalled to find the donation box for Breast Cancer Care had been taken from their reception hatch.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "We were raising money as part of the Tickled Pink campaign and the box was really full because we had hardly any pink ribbons left to give away.

"We are really disappointed that it's been taken. It's the first time that something like this has happened here. We hope that the person concerned enjoyed the money and thought that their need was more deserving than a very worthwhile charity."

The box was not secured to anything because staff had to remove it when the reception was closed.

The incident has been reported to the police.
