Dignitaries paid tribute to charities that help others during North Herts District Council’s annual civic service on Sunday.
The service, at St Faith’s Church in Hitchin, was led by Rev Melanie Crowley, with readings from Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Helen Hanbury and council chairman’s consort Maureen Millard.
Councillor Alan Millard, the district council’s chairman, introduced two speakers from charities honoured at the service – Hitchin Helping Hands, which helps the elderly get out into the community, and Snappy Gs, a work project for youngsters aged 13 to 25 who live with learning disabilities.
Mr Millard said: “It is a true honour to be able to recognise the heartwarming and tireless work of these vital community charities at our civic service.
“Without organisations like these, many in the community would be left isolated and alone.”
