DRINKS were on the house at a birthday party in Westholm Green, Letchworth GC.

Residents got together to celebrate the centenary of their homes.

Lining the quiet road are listed houses designed by Parker and Unwin and built around 1906 during the garden city's pioneering days.

Built as workers' cottages, the homes vary from two-bedroom terraces to four-bedroom detached.

The centenary was celebrated at a picnic where a birthday cake was cut by Pat Richardson who has lived there for more than 50 years.

One of the organisers, David Ames, said: "Although Letchworth GC has changed over time, Westholm Green has hardly altered, with the buildings and green being almost exactly the same and a wonderful oasis of calm.
