A BRAZEN thief is being hunted by police after he chatted to a driver at a petrol station before stealing their debit card.

The theft occurred at Sainsbury’s petrol station in Hitchin Road, Stevenage, after a man had opened the male victim’s passenger door and taken the card – left on the seat – after starting a conversation.

The suspect was last seen walking off towards the main shop at the Corey’s Mill store after the incident, which took place at 11.14am on Wednesday, July 25.

Police have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft.

PC Justin Watkins, who is investigating the incident, said: “We are very keen to trace the man in this photo as we believe he may have information that could help us with our inquiries. If you recognise him please contact me on 101 – the non-emergency number and quote crime reference number E1/12/4566.”
