Stevenage slimmers have contributed a hefty £1,100 to cancer charity coffers thanks to a series of Slimming World Does Race for Life events – and the money is still coming in.

A string of 5km events were held across the town in support of Cancer Research UK as part of a nationwide fundraising drive by the weight loss wonders.

The events put the emphasis on everyone completing the course at their own speed rather than making a race of it.

And as well as raising money, the Race For Life link-up aimed to emphasise how maintaining a healthy weight and being active can help improve health and reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Holly Butcher, who runs the weekly Pin Green Slimming World group at Larwood School, says her members thoroughly enjoyed the 5km challenge. She says: “It was a fantastic event and the atmosphere was buzzing. I’m so pleased with the group effort and how much we have all raised.”
