There was a buzz of excitement at a sheltered housing home as digitally-aware pupils from a Hitchin school visited to help show residents how to get the most out of computers and the internet.
Harrison Court Sheltered Housing scheme, near to Harrison Close, played host to seven Year 10 pupils from The Priory School as they dropped by to help guide people into making the most of the online world during their Digital Inclusion Day.
Many from the home had already met the students at the school last year, when they were taught by students in classrooms at the Bedford Road school – with both the pupils and the residents pleased to renew acquaintances.
Inspired by the initiative, Priory head Geraint Edwards said: “The Digital Inclusion Day is an outstanding example of how a business, young people and members of the community can come together and share their knowledge and understanding. Bridging the information technology gap is vital to enhancing the life experiences of all involved.”
The events were organised by teacher Sally Emler and Colin Newcombe, business systems manager at Fortem – previously Willmott Dixon Partnerships – whose head office is in Hitchin. Sally said: “Both students and residents thoroughly enjoyed the event.”
