A fuel pump was knocked down today when a driver tried to leave the Tesco Extra filling station in Baldock with the fuel line still attached to his vehicle.

Staff immediately closed the station as a safety precaution but there was no fuel spillage.

The crash landing was captured by Trevor Conway of High Street, Baldock, with his camera as he sat waiting to buy petrol.

"It was as if everything happened in slow motion," said Mr Conway.

"The old fellow drove off and had forgotten to take the fuel line out of his car. When he wondered what he was towing he got out and tried to put the fuel line back and seemed rather stunned when he couldn't see the pump it until he looked on the floor.

"Staff immediately closed the station but no fuel was spilled on to the forecourt.
