Heartless would-be thieves broke into a Hitchin home distressing a dog so much it escaped.
The callous burglars entered a house in The Crescent between 8pm and 8.10pm on Friday. The owners were out but two dogs were in the lounge.
Nothing was taken and the offenders escaped. But to the horror of animal lovers everywhere they left the door open and one of the dogs escaped.
