North Herts District Council is calling on Hitchin residents to have their say on how the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Churchgate area will look.

The Churchgate liaison forum is being set up to enable dialogue between the council, the developers Simons, businesses and townsfolk.

A council spokesman said: "The forum will have no decision making powers, but will be a useful avenue for the developer to test ideas, helping to shape the project, and most importantly to communicate effectively with the town."

Norma Atlay, director of finance, policy and governance at the council, said those not represented on the forum will have "ample opportunities" to express their opinions during the consultation process which begins on May 19.
