A REUNION has been organised in a bid to bring together former apprentices of a business based in a Comet country town for 70 years.
Former Letchworth GC resident Bob Bowker decided to organise an event for ex-apprentices at Shelvoke and Drewry after serving a five-year engineering apprenticeship in the 1950s at the company, which had a factory in Icknield Way until it closed in 1992.
After contacting former colleagues from the business, which produced a range of municipal vehicles and forklift trucks, and being supported in his efforts by ex managing director Stanley Quinn, the 74-year-old has so far around 25 people attending the lunch at Letchworth Golf Club on Saturday, November 26.
Mr Bowker, who now lives in South Wales, said: “There are a lot of people out there that served their time so I thought before all memories of my time spent as an apprentice are lost I should arrange a reunion for ex-apprentices.”
Any ex-apprentice who would like to attend the reunion, which starts at 12.30pm and is 15 a head, can contact Bob Bowker on 01656 784169 or email robertbowker@tiscali.co.uk
