A spring fair in Hitchin’s Market Place on Saturday raised more than £500 for the town’s Leonard Cheshire Home.
The Friends of Symonds House, a group of volunteers supporting the Lavender Way care home for adults with physical disabilities, braved a chilly spring morning to offer cakes and bric-a-brac to bargain hunters, and a tombola also helped boost the total.
Chairman Gabriela Lovelace said: “We would not be able to run this event without help from volunteers from Hitchin Lions, Hitchin Mimram Rotary Club and GlaxoSmithKline Stevenage.
“The money we raise contributes towards various social activities such as wheelchair dancing sessions, day trips and additional equipment including ‘eye gaze’ technology which allows people to use their eyes like the mouse on a computer.
“Our next event is a race night on Monday, April 6, at The Arena Tavern in Letchworth, from 7pm. Please join us for very enjoyable evening.”
