A LEADING figure on use of technology in learning has joined North Hertfordshire College.

Cathy Ellis joined the college as director of innovation and next generation learning after previously working as director of the Government-funded British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta), which led the national drive for innovative use of technology in learning.

Speaking of her newly created role at NHC, Cathy Ellis said: “I will be working with NHC tutors to explore new styles of delivering learning for students who are competing in a global environment, who are project-driven and need to be multi-skilled.

“I also intend to build bridges with industry, as I did with Becta, to identify employer’s skills needs and job opportunities for our students – not simply in the UK but internationally.”

Fintan Donohue, NHC’s principal and chief executive, added: “I am delighted that she decided to join us because she views us as a progressive college, with an excellent reputation, and a focus on technology in our front-line thinking. The added-value accruing for NHC from Cathy becoming one of our senior team is immense.”
